Management Department
Background
The Government
Jagannath College was established in 1884 with a view to develop the
education in this region. Department of Commerce was opened in 1942
in the Jagannath College. Department of Management was established in
the year of 1972 just after the liberation war of Bangladesh to spread
the light of business education. It introduced honours in Management
in the session of 1972-73 and Master Degree in the following year.
Jagannath College
was converted into Jagannath University under ‘The
Jagannath University Act 2005’ which was passed in the National
Parliament of Bangladesh. Since Professor Dr. Sirajul Islam Khan joined
the university as first Vice-Chancellor on February 8, 2006, the department
started to take a new challenge to boost up the management and business
education in the country.
Features and Academic Programs of the Department
The Department
of Management of Jagannath University is pioneer in the business education
of Bangladesh. It is committed to provide the highest educational standard
to cope with the growing business environment. The department is empowered
to provide teaching for the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration
(BBA), Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and Master of Business Studies
(MBS) as per the rules and regulations of the university.
Many dignified
academicians and scholars of commerce rendered their services in the
department. Prof. Md. Ashraf Hossain was the first Chairman as well
as the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies’, followed by Professor
Tofail Ahmed and Professor Anisur Rahman. At Present this department
is being headed by Professor Md. Abul Kalam Chowdhury who is also the
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies.
There are about
4000 (four thousand) students enrolled in the department. Among them
400 students continuing in the BBA First Year 2nd
Semester and Second Year 1st Semester (2005 -06 & 2006
-07 sessions) and rest of the students are in the BBS honors and Master
degree Courses.
Library
Facilities
The department
is enriched with a seminar library containing about 2500 books available
for the students. There are adequate computers and latest IT facilities
for improved teaching techniques to provide with updated knowledge to
the students. An initiative has also been taken to establish a computer
laboratory for the students to gather the knowledge on ‘Database Management
System’.

A Brief History of
The Department of Accounting
Jagannath University,
Dhaka.
Jagannath College,
now converted in to Jagannath University, was established in 1884 with
a view to spread the light of education in the then Bengal. This great
institution has been playing an important role in this regard since
British period. Jagannath college has been converted into Jagannath
University on October 20, 2005 passing an act in the national Parliament.
Commerce
department was opened in 1942. Intermediate in Commerce and bachelor
degree in commerce were taught in the then Jagannath College.
Department of Accounting was established in the year 1972 after the
liberation war. It introduced honours in Accounting in the same year
and Masters Degree in the following year.
Many
scholar of the commerce discipline served here. Prof. Md Abdul Hye
first headed the Accounting department. Other learned teachers of the

At Present
this department is being headed by Muhammad Humayun Kabir. If is a big
department now. There are about 4000 students in various stages and
