Welcome to Jagannath University Mathematics Department
We welcome to the students from various parts of our countries including the countries in every parts of the world. This department will provide you an excellent academic environments & we believe that this will give you a wonderful time and an exciting challenge.
A SHORT HISTORY:
The Department of Mathematics Of Jagannath University really owe to Babu Kishori Lal Roy Chowdhury & Jagannah Roy Chowdhury, the benevolent Educationists & Founder of this old educational institution for higher education in Old Dhaka.
The Department of Mathematics of Jagannath University started its journey on 1 August 1968 with the wide range of vision initially with B.Sc. (pass) courses. After liberation this department expanded its course activities to undergraduate & graduate levels. In 1973-1974, it offered B.Sc (Honors), Masters (Preliminary), M.Sc (Final) Courses in 1989 & M.Sc (Thesis) works in 2000. Distinguished Mathematicians from various fields of mathematics like Prof. Shukendra Chandra Ghosh (1st Chair), Prof. Kamaruzzaman, Prof. Md. Iman Ali, Prof. Md. Sharfuddin Reja Hai, Prof. A.K.M. Manjurul Huq, Prof. A.F.M. Khodadad Khan, Prof. Md. Shamsul huq Mollah, Prof. Md. Tofazzal Hossain, Prof. Parbin Sultana Chowdhury, Prof. Dr. Nirmal Kanti Mitra, Prof. Dr. Fazlur Rahman, Prof. Md. Dewan Abdul Kuddus etc. worked as the Head of the Department & contrubuted this department during 1968 to 2005. The department is really proud of having the aboved mentioned mathematicians during their long academic period whose efforts & contribution enriched the department in nation building.
After converting Jagannath College to as a full fledged University on 20 October 2005, this department started its course curriculum as Semester System & now running with this system in full sweing.
The vision of the Department of Mathematics is to be a centre of excellence for improving the quality of Mathematics education in Bangladesh. This Department, in pursuance of the vision of the Jagannath University of Bangladesh, commits itself to the achievement of academic excellence in the fields of Pure & Applied Mathematics. It offers Bachelors, Masters, M.Phil and Ph.D level degrees in said the fields. Programs in the Department of Mathematics are designed to broaden students' perspectives and to help them realize their full potential. Course offerings in mathematics (pure and applied) for teachers. A student may concentrate in one area or combine coursework from several areas.
MISSION:
The mission of this Department is to make a significant contribution to the improvement of the quality of Mathematics education in Bangladesh:
In order to achieve its vision, the Department of Mathematics seeks to:
ACADEMIC CITIZENSHIP:
RESEARCH:
MATH LAB
We have a well equipped air conditioned modern Math Lab with about 40 high configured computers. The main purpose of this Lab is to give students an understanding modern mathematics using Mathematica & FORTRAN Programming Language. Especially enable students to use computer to solve analytically a variety of mathematical problems including algebraic equations, differentiation, integration, differential equations, matrix manipulation, series expansions , limits, various problems in Linear Algebra, Geometry, Numerical Analysis etc. and represent mathematical functions graphically to produce mathematical reports.
On the other hand, practical work mainly comprises the writing of computer programs. The programs have to be developed on suitable computers using prescribed computer packages.
MATH SEMINAR
We have a well furnished Math Seminar with about 3000 undergraduate & graduate books of mathematics (pure & applied), some reported journals, mathematics encyclopedia etc. The students may concentrate to their group studies in the seminar room & they can borrow their reference books, journals etc. from the seminar. Soon this seminar will be decorated as world class standard when it will be shifted in the new building.
RESEARCHERS:
1. Analysis of Chaotic Dynamical Systems & Topology, Functional Analysis
Dr. Payer Ahmed, Prof. Dr.Shinzo Kawamura(1), Prof. Dr. Minoru Sasaki
Department of Mathematics, Jagannath University, Department of Mathematical Science(1), Department of Physics(2), Yamagata University, Japan.
The main focus of our research is Analysis of Chaotic Dynamical Systems with a special focus on one dimensional dynamical systems. Our attention is restricted to continuous map on the compact subspace of the real line. We show a lot of chaotic maps on those continuous maps. We then turned our attention to chaotic maps & Banach Lattice.
Current Interest: Computer Simulations of Chaotic Behavior as well as Transient Thermoelectric Effects (TTE) in Quantum Solid State Physics.
2. Authors: Differential & Calculus, Differential Eqn., Mechanics, Methods of applied Mathematics
Prof. Abu Yousuf, Department of Mathematics, Jagannath University
3. Numerical Scheme for the Boltzmann Equation Based on a Hexagonal Discrete Velocity Model in 3D real space.
Md. Mizanor Rahman (2), Dr. Layek Sazzad Endella
Department of Mathematics, Jagannath University, Depart of Mathematics, Jahangirnagar University
The Department offers: MSc, M.Phill and PhD degrees in Mathematics which enable students who have a mathematics background to carry out research into some aspect of improving the lea rning and teaching of their subject
