History of The Department of Social Work of Jagannath University

Information of Social Work Department 

      The department of Social Work was established in 1992 with Masters programme under the National University. B.S.S honours programme was introduced in the academic year of 2002-03. Since its inception, the educational programme was started with both day and night shift. Both B.S.S honours and Masters programme was started with fifty students. From the academic year of 2002-03, one hundred students enroll both in the B.S.S honours and Masters Programme of the department and till it is continuing in the university education. From the academic year of 2005-06 the department has introduced 4-year Bachelor Degree in social work under semester system. The course curricula consist on theoretical classes, fieldwork practice, research, seminar and viva voce. The program consists on 08 semesters each of 6 months duration and of 128 credit hours. In addition, 24 credit hours are there for MSS (Regular) programme including field work. 

The department of social work is distinguished than other departments. Here a student has to successfully complete sixty days field practice in a specific government or Non-government organization as an apprentice both in B.S.S honours and Masters programme. As a dynamic social science, social work is deeply appreciated both in country and abroad among learned and mass people. Now-a-days employment opportunity for social work students is remarkable. As a result meritorious students are giving priority towards social work at higher education for study. At present out of ten posts eight teachers are fitting job. They are:
